DVR Out of Space
Today the Toshiba DVR ran out of space about 25 minutes into the service and stopped recording.
Deleting several services from 2010 freed space on the HDD. Recording was restarted and is working fine now.
We need a procedure for removing older services from the HDD to ensure space is available for Sunday’s recording session.
Dropping Stream "Low Bandwidth"
We use Ustream.tv to stream and archive our worship services. We use the Ustream Producer (free version) product to run our stream. This usually works very well but today we kept dropping the connection to Ustream. The error is “Low Bandwidth”. Checking with http://speakeasy.net shows the upload and download speeds are 20Mbs and 4Mbs respectively. I’m assuming we have an...

Issues with SR24-4 VLZ Pro
Scott from Broadway Sound setup this mixer as a loaner while our Digital Mackie TT24 is in the shop for some repairs to the output channel for the Chapel
We’re having issues with sound quality and audio mapping. One of the issues is that our soloists don’t want to be amplified to the room…we only want them amplified to the DVR, CD Recorder, and Ustream feed.

No audio on CDs due to wrong input selection; Input was set to Input1…MUST BE SET TO XLR! Also, unit appeared to be frozen; had to cycle power to get unit working again. LRK

Video issues with Ustream feed on Youth Sunday were due to bug in Ustream advanced video settings page. Frame rate in FPS was set to NAN…this should not be possible thus the bug. LRK
installed iStat dashboard widget on streaming 17” iMac in control room. I’m concerned this little iMac doesn’t have enough processor to stream the service. It is maxed out most of the time while streaming. I’ll look into a substitute. Maybe borrow one of our new iMacs from the lab. LRK

There is now a shortcut on the DOCK of the iMac in the control room to access the DVR; this will allow a remote operator to control the DVR. I plan to use this to clean up some of the DVR disk space from home and also start recording if necessary from home. LRK

Changed presets on Audio Mixer board to better reflect our current needs. These are starting points and can be manually adjusted on the fly. LRK
I can’t find an automatic menu setting to delete content based on AGE or amount of disk space. We need to manually delete items older than 6 months each week before service starts. LRK
Setup automatic DVR recording every Sunday at 8:25 a.m. - 9:20 a.m and 10:55 a.m. - 12:05 p.m. This needs to be verified each week but is a backup incase someone forgets to press RECORD button. Hopefully this will help prevent loss of services. LRK
Deleting older files on DVR to make room for new recordings. Also looking into setting DVR to delete files older than 6 months to keep space on DVR available. LRK

Idea: we have ability on DVR to create chapters for DVD by pressing the RECORD button during the recording process. We could have chapters at childrens time, minute for mission, baptisms, sermon, etc. All that’s required is pressing the RECORD button on the DVR at every break. LRK

Several UStream Broadcast viewers/listeners are requesting better audio by adding mics to cover more of the front of the sanctuary. Can’s hear soloists very well or Dr. Barron at doxology or benediction. LRK

September 16th, 2007 - While recording 11:00 service and broadcasting on ustream.tv, I was informed by a ustream visitor that we had a HUM in the audio when Michael was speaking. I changed from Preset 1 to Preset 4 on the mixer and this eliminated the HUM. We must have a mic picking something up or being over driven. LRK
Met Steve Brown today in Michael’s Marriage Class; he has his own Audio/Video Installation/Consultation company!!! I don’t want to scare him away but would love to have him on the committee. LRK

Modify DOCK on 24” iMac for “Movies/Slideshows” account to add KEYNOTE and PAGES. Also, turn on Magnification. Also, enabled RIGHT mouse button for context menus. LRK
Need to add Chapter Marker to DVD at start of sermon; this will make the sermon show in the chapters menu and make it easier to find.
Need to get additional hardware to start capturing video as Mpeg4 for video podcast.
Need to add supporting documentation to worship services for internet audience; apostles’ creed, bulletin, bible verses, etc.
We need more BANDWIDTH! Our broadcast quality could be a lot better if increased our upload speed to the internet.
We need a white board for notes in the control room; we also need a picture posted of the mixer in normal settings…this would allow recovery to a “fat finger”
We could use the Vaddio Video mixer in the control room to add introduction and closing video…we would need to create the video and make some wiring changes but we do have the necessary hardware and software.
Need to change default presets on camera; should default to Preset #1 on startup. This will have them ready to record service.

Setup Sony HI-MD Recorder on 24” iMac. Unit charges while connected to iMac USB. To remove, drag “No Name” disk on desktop to trash can to unmount. Then, press stop button on unit and unplug. Rechargeable battery is good for 90 minutes of recording. Extra external battery pack it in box on shelf. Mic should always be used with extension cable to prevent recording disk...

12:41 p.m. Sunday, July 8th - Started 10 Audio CDs and 5 Video DVDs on GX-1 for today’s 11:00 service. LRK
Recorded sermon portion of audio live using audacity and a borrowed rca to mini-stereo 1/8” plug. Uploaded mp3 file to libsyn using fetch ftp client. need to publish podcast entry using this media file.
We need another cable for control room; if we had an RCA to 1/8 Mini stero plug, we could record the podcast audio on the fly as an MP3. This would greatly reduce our time to get podcasts on the internet.

This unit is having issues with copying disks. Seems that on boot up it doesn’t recognize all three drives as writeable. This could be a bug that can be fixed with a firmware update.
Just started 10 CDs and 5 DVDs of 11:00 July 1st service on GX-1; let’s see how it does this evening.
Ustream.tv/shpc worked pretty well today. We streamed the 8:30 and 11:00 service without issue and recorded both on the ustream.tv/shpc site.
Setup accounts on 24” imac in upstairs office for “DVD/CD Duplication” and “Movies/Slideshows” this should help keep tasks and files organized a little better.

Installed new S-Video splitter in control room to allow video signal from vaddio board to go directly to firewire ADVC110 box to Ustream.tv/shpc. This is in effort to fix problems with Toshiba DVR having to be on to stream on Ustream.tv

Using ADVC110 on Firewire to capture live audio/video to iMac in control room. Bug in Flash player causes Safari to crash when allowing flash player to access DV audio/video; workaround: enable dv audio first, then dv video.
Created new account on 24” imac for podcasting; this account will be used by anyone working on audio or video podcasts.
